Nov. 5 Papers Sold Out, People Wait Hours For Later Press Runs 11/06/2008

I was a newspaper reporter for more than a decade and I tend to keep newspapers whenever I travel or in the wake of pivotal moments – i.e., the New York Times after 9/11; the Washington Post for the Million Man March; Times-Picayune for its Hurricane Katrina coverage; etc.
Evidently others do the same. I couldn’t help but chuckle that long voter lines were replaced by lines of people waiting to buy editions of the Post or the Baltimore Sun or USA Today. I asked my mother in Maryland to save her home-delivery copy of the Post. When she wanted to buy extra copies and other papers as she headed to work, she found lines at several venues. My best friend in Maryland also encountered the same thing. And like on Election Day, the wait was festive, according to media reports, but it lasted for several hours in some instances.

Editorial in Chicago Tribune about media bias 11/05/2008

An editorial about media bias in the wake of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama’s election as the nation’s 44th president. The author asserts that lack of objectivity on the part of media affected the outcome of the election. “Journalism is truly dead, and the situation may get worse with a liberal Congress, pushing the Fairness Doctrine, and a new administration that has shown a penchant for denying access to those who ask tough questions or have a dissenting opinion,” writes Kevin Brown.
