Freedom Forum will sponsor a multimedia boot camp Aug. 9-14 in Nashville. The training will take place at the John Seigenthaler Center at Vanderbilt University. It’s designed for journalism educators, professionals and students to develop and hone skills in audio, photo and video storytelling.
The cost is $850, payable in advance. Registration will be accepted until July 19. For applications and additional information, go to www.freedomforumdiversity.org.
Last year, I attended a multimedia seminar at the institute that was co-sponsored by Belmont University, which is also in Nashville. I found it to be very helpful, particularly the guest speakers/presenters who reviewed different technologies, software and best practices in learning how to report, edit and distribute content for the Web.
“The hands-on training program is modeled after the Freedom Forum’s acclaimed multimedia curriculum and is equivalent to a 2-credit-hour college course. It is designed for those with limited or no multimedia
experience,” according to an e-mail from the Freedom Forum.
John Seigenthaler, chairman emeritus of the Tennessean newspaper, established the First Amendment Center in 1991. Its mission is to “preserve and protect First Amendment freedoms through information and education,” according to the First Amendment Center Web site. “The center serves as a forum for the study and exploration of free-expression issues, including freedom of speech, of the press and of religion, and the rights to assemble and to petition the government.”
With offices in Nashville and Washington, D.C., the First Amendment Center is a program of the Freedom Forumand is associated with the Newseum and the Diversity Institute.
