Kudos to Former Colleague For Earning Kaiser Media Fellowship 05/28/2009

I am very happy for Anita Wadhwani for receiving a fellowship from the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation  to study the impact of cutbacks to Tennessee’s Medicaid managed care program. The freelance writer once covered health, religion and other cultural stories for the Tennessean.

Wadhwani was one of nine journalists named as 2009 Kaiser Media Fellows. The program enables journalists to work on in-depth reporting/research projects that can take up to nine months to complete.

“Stipends are awarded based on the length of the fellowship, up to $55,000 for a nine-month period.  The program also covers expenses, such as travel and computer equipment, based on the needs of the project,” according to a Kaiser news release.

Fellows will also “engage in group site visits focused on health policy issues and attend special briefings with leading health policy experts and practitioners to increase their understanding of current health policy issues, while working on in-depth reporting projects on a variety of policy-related topics,” the news release said. “The fellows will also receive training in multimedia reporting techniques.”
