Spreading Love By Packing Shoe Boxes 11/13/2008

National collection week for Operation Christmas Child begins Monday. Since 1993, more than 61 million gift-filled shoe boxes have been delivered around the world to children living in desperate situations. Last year, almost 7.7 million shoe boxes were collected; 4.6 million in the United States.

The shoe boxes were packed, shipped and delivered to children in more than 110 countries including Afghanistan, Sudan and Venezuela. OCC is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization based in Boone, N.C.

Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism hosted a program about multimedia and journalism titled “Changing Media Landscape 2008.” The journalism school’s latest look at the media revolution featured New York Times reporter Sewell Chan; SpotUs founder David Cohn; cafebabel.com’s director and editor in chief Adriano Farano; St. Louis Post-Dispatch graphics designer Erica Smith and Jacob Weisberg, chairman and editor-in-chief of the Slate Group.
